For ‘Queens’, music producer Swizz Beatz taps into his’ 90s roots – Hollywood Outbreak

QUEENS – ABC’s “Queens” stars Nadine Velazquez as Valeria alias Butter Pecan, Eve as Brianna alias Professor Sex, Brandy as Naomi alias Xplicit Lyrics and Naturi Naughton as Jill alias Da Thrill .. (ABC / Gavin Bond)

Producer Swizz beatz began his rise to the top of the music industry in the late 1990s, producing his first # 1 rap single for Jay Z in 1999. Since then he has been a leading force in the industry, producing successes for people like Duck, Lil wayne, Kendrick Lamar, Beyonce, and his wife, Alicia Keys. These days he’s also working on ABC’s new drama Queens; he’s the executive musical director of the show, which is based on the reunion of a hit ’90s girl group. When it came to producing the fictional band’s hits of their heyday, Beatz told us that this was quite his back alley, as his sensibility is still rooted in that ’90s sound. Queens airs Tuesdays at 10 / 9c on ABC and starts airing the next day on Hulu.
